Spring Break

Senior spring break. Wow! I can’t believe it has came to our last break until we graduate. Where has the time went. We are all graduating in 8 weeks! Just the thought of me not being in high school, or even living in the same house as my family in less than 6 months. Spring break is the cliche time to go to Florida and party it up on the beach. I did just that. I went to Clearwater Florida with my 5 close friends and we had a ball. It was mostly cold that week comparatively to the other weeks, but that didn’t stop us from having fun. Rachel and I snuggled up in a towel in the hammock after hopping out of the hot tub. There we got some unexpected sunburn that made the rest of the week an eye opener that even though it is a tad cold that you still have to wear sunscreen. My shins were burnt. Rachel’s face was burnt. Sydney’s back of her legs all the way up to her butt was burnt like a lobster. We learned our lesson lol. Our room wasn’t the cliche room that overlooks the ocean. That was okay with me because us kids were the ones paying for the room. It overlooked the roof 🙂 yeah that sounds very weird and something that not many people want but it was actually really cool. When it was super windy and cold we would go out on the roof and lay out in the sun where there was no wind. There we were able to relax and enjoy the sun. The resort we stayed at had 3 restaurants in it and that was very convenient to us 5. We went to that restaurant about 4 out of the 7 nights we were there. Totally worth it and very yummy. As the week went on the sun started to come out more often. It was the warmest the last day of course. One night after dinner, we went out to the fire pit and there was a nice man playing the guitar and singing to those at the fire. He was very good but was also very timid so he wasn’t very loud. We became friends with him and got to know him and about his singing intentions. He works at the pool but that week was his last week and he was pursuing music more in his life. I thought that was amazing because it is very hard to be successful in music but I really think he will go somewhere. His name is Johnathon Lowe and he is from South America and is a very small skinny guy. Amazing person once you get to know him. He has some originals and he played them for us and they were amazing. The beach was a bit chilly so we stayed towards the resort and hung out in the hot tub and the pool. We also played some volleyball, corn hole, and jumbo connect four. There was plenty of things to do and that’s what made the trip amazing. Some of our friends chose to take plenty of naps and catch up on their sleep that has been lost throughout the school year. I chose to nap out in the sun where they chose the bed. Whatever floats their boat. It’s vacation! Knowing that all these friends will be going in separate directions in less than 4 months is mind blowing and I wish isn’t going to happen. I can’t see my friends moving hours and hours away from me. They have been there through thick and thin for the past 4+ years and knowing that they will be so far away will be so hard on my heart. I love them all so dearly and hope that they choose the right paths in the future and live in complete happiness after we part.

Self Identity

Your self identity and the description of yourself through other peoples eyes could be different. Someone might think that they are a caring and kind person, but in someone else’s eyes they might think that they are stuck up or just looking for attention. No matter the words you use to describe yourself, someone will always have something to say differently. You could also describe yourself as stressed or overwhelmed. Other might see you as quiet and emotional. Not everybody knows the full story and cannot fully describe how you act. In reality, that’s what people do. They judge without the full story. Sometimes without any part of the story. When you are a baby, your parents raise you based on what they think is important. They give you those characteristics as a child. Once you get older, you start to build your own characteristics and also give other people names and characteristics. Society is one continuous circle of shaping people based on the opinions of other people rather than their own.holstee-manifesto.png In Thandie Newtons TedTalk, she referenced how a baby is dependent on their parents. She says “You know how newborn babies believe they’re part of everything; they’re not separate? Well that fundamental sense of oneness is lost on us very quickly. It’s like that initial stage is over — oneness: infancy, unformed, primitive.” I believe that babies are just learning how to be part of the world. Their parents have a strong influence on how they act and what they grow up to be. As an infant they do not know a whole lot other than what is around them and what is taught. I also do not believe that the oneness is lost immediately. I believe that a kid will act as a kid for the first maybe year. Most children their first year does not consist of doing anything that will cause them to lost their oneness. Children laugh and play and do things that make them happy. The world does not hit them until they understand that there is bad in the world. That does not happen until for another couple years. This can also relate to maturity. Children are the youngest and most immature. They have the least amount of accountability or trust when they are a kid. That’s understandable. I relate this to identity. How do you truly know who you are at a young age? How do you think that you have fully figured yourself out when you have a whole life ahead of you? Self identity is such a hard concept to grasp, and I believe that you can never actually grasp that idea fully.

Debt

budgetinginthecity.pngDebt is a word that only those who experience it are scared to use. As a senior in high school, I see debt in the near future. It is called student debt. One thing that almost all students face. It is not a fun word nor is it a fun experience. Some people face this word their entire lives because they are in enough debt that it takes that long to pay off. Others are lucky enough that it only takes a few years to pay off. I believe that there are people out there that believe debt is just a number. They pay it off, but they do not spend money wisely so the number just keeps rising. Necessities need to be made when facing debt. If you think that buying flowers every week to keep in your house, and going out to dinner and the bar twice a week, then you need to re-evaluate. Debt is real and it could cause people to go homeless because they do not manage their money well. In the story “My Misspent Youth” the character lives in New York City with an education that she spend a huge chuck of her money on. Now living in debt in the most stressful, ongoing city in America. She has a career that she is not actually interested in after going through schooling. She once lived in the suburbs then moved to the big city. Which in all honesty, isn’t that what a lot of people want to do once they graduate. After the rude awakening that New York City is not for everybody, she decided to move to Lincoln. Which is a smart idea financially and mentally. Most college students expect debt after college, but what matters is that you stay out of other debts that could potentially hurt your ability to pay off bills. Many people face credit card debt in the 20th century and that is why many people go into full debt and become homeless. They are unable to get out of the hole that they have dug themselves into before it was too late. Debt is the largest struggle in America. Most people get into debt due to loss of job, student loan, carelessness, and many other reasons. I, on the other hand, am going to accept that I will have student debt, and that definitely scares me. But I plan to have a job or career to help alleviate those debts as fast as possible. Debt. Ouch…

Aruba

Let me just describe my trip to Aruba in pictures, because everyone knows best

Pictures tells a thousand words

Lets just start with…

The animals there are also very friendly and amazing as well. The iguanas there are just like birds in the United States. They are everywhere…

I was also able to experience the Aruba culture and what they do on a daily routine like the church, and the dancing and cool outfits and dance that the young kids do.

The beaches are very clear and perfect for snorkeling and scuba diving so that is just what my dad and I did.

I also found this super cool oasis with freshwater, Inside were these fish that eat the dead skin off of your feet.

I was not into the idea of putting my feet into a fish pond but….

here I am…

With my feet in the water…IMG_1045.CR2.jpg

One Moment in Life

1339F358-1BBC-481F-A306-60D38A5A52AF.jpeg

Memories last forever.

Some you wish you could forget, but others you wish you could remember forever. Many memories are made from things that you don’t realize are important parts of your life.

Memories tell a story.

The other day my sister and I were driving and we drove past a road.

I ask her if she remembers that road.

She said Yes.

That was all. No stories we had to tell between us. No conversations after that comment.

Just silence.

That is all I had to say for a million moments to pop up in my head and in hers.

Many memories that neither my sister or I intended on being something we both look back on when driving past it.

Just a moment in life.

Happy or sad.

However one wants to take it. I had more memories that correspond to that road, but my sister and I still have one common memory and that memory will stick with us both for a long time.

One moment in life could be remembered forever.

Dream Vacation

If I was to go anywhere in the world it would be Australia.  It is absolutely beautiful in Australia including the Opera House, the Pink Lake, The Great Barrier Reef, Ayers Rock, and many more. I have heard that you can also see the Milky Way at night. My lifelong dream is to see the Milky Way.

Just a little visual from Australia that I dream to take and experience myself.PinnaclesGalaxy_Goh_2400.jpg

Along with the Milky being visible in Australia, the famous pink lake is also there.

How cool would it be to swim in a pink lake?

Is is like the salt lake? Do you float on the water? Or is it just pink?

There is so much that fascinates me about it.

And that it is in Australia.

Australia!!!!!
Pink-Lake-702x459.jpgJust look at its beauty!!

Also look at the ocean.. its so dark then turns blue then green. Then pink??

Just imagine how cool it would be to be swimming in the pink lake and then seeing the Milky Way!

While were talking about the beach… Australia also has the Great Barrier Reef. That is also something that you cannot see in very many places. The Reef houses so many exotic fish and species. It is very colorful and since I love snorkeling and looking at fish and all the creatures in the water.

Seeing the Great Barrier Reef would be absolutely amazing. reef

I would have my mouth open almost the entire time I was in Australia because there is just so much to see that is so much different from America. The culture is different, the environment is so happy and upbeat.

So positive.

So beautiful.

AHhhhhh!

Ayers-Rock-Uluru

I also love hiking. I love hiking to beautiful mountain views and beaches and waterfalls. When I am in North Carolina, we hike to many waterfalls and pretty views. This could be a 3 mile hike, or a 0.5 mile hike. My favorite types of hikes are the ones that are difficult and requires me to walk along a tree log to pass the river or jump across rocks to stay on the path. Australia has this really cool rock formation that is in Uluru that really isn’t a hike because it is literally in the middle of nowhere with all flat desert around it but it would be a cool adventure to get to it.  I also added a picture of the Opera House because it is beautiful and would be amazing to go inside and take pictures and all.

I would be in total awe of all the things that are in Australia!!!

Endings Can be Beautiful

sunsets

Things happen for a reason and things will always get better. It might take one week, one month, maybe even a year or two. After a while, you will realize that things are meant to be and that it all happened for a reason. You live and you learn. High school sucks sometimes, and people suck even more. The people in your life now, don’t have to be in your life after school. It is your decision. The life you choose after high school is all up to you and to be successful or not is also up to you. Nobody’s decisions now in high school should ever determines ones life. Stay strong and don’t let the little things bring you down.

The Rose

“I didn’t like my name. Violetta wasn’t a proud bloom like the sunflower that shot straight up and turned its wide face to stare at the sun; Violetta was a shy flower that crouched in the shadowy corners of the garden. Violetta had furry leaves and flowers with bowed heads. Violetta, the color of a bruise, I thought, not Violetta, the color of royal robes.” rose

The way she describes her name is like she is putting down herself. Instead of comparing it to a flower, she compares is to the color of a bruise. Some people have different childhoods, where that is the best descriptions to their names. Some have childhoods where they can compare it to beautiful flowers and happy memories. Others, its just a disgrace to their name. I think your name is unique and it holds all your memories and experiences. I think that your name defines you. It only defines the you that you portray yourself to be. If you let your name be the color of a bruise instead of the color of royal robes, then you are letting your past define you. Many people are defined by their past and what happened when they were young, if it is good or bad. They might of went through a terrible accident as a child and lost a loved one, maybe they gained another loved one in the family. Or many other cases, but the way you let yourself define yourself, then that is what you will be known as. People choose their future, and the way people handle it depends on their character. I would consider myself a rose. I think this because I feel that I am strong, hard headed like the thorns, emotional like the soft petals, and bright like the many pretty colors of the roses.

Grow through what you go through

8B77C261-C39A-47C0-B192-2B77615A01DC.jpegThings happen and people move on. Some things might be harder than others, but in the long run, people move on. It might be a breakup, a loss of a loved one, or a failed test. I think this quote could mean many things. Everybody lives and they learn. Some people, it might take a year, others maybe a month. Everything happens for a reason in life and to find the real reason as to why it happens just takes time. Learning from experiences takes maturity and confidence. When life gives you lemons, make a lemonade out of it. In the end what matters is not the amount of chilling we have done but the amount of hard work and growth we have achieved from the falls.
